Triage Training: Understanding Emergency Prioritization

The Triage System used at LBJ Tropical Medical Center is to prioritize emergency cases based on the urgency of medical needs. It categorizes patients into five distinct levels: Red for critical, life-threatening conditions requiring immediate intervention; Orange for severe but not immediately life-threatening emergencies; Yellow for urgent cases that can tolerate a short wait; Green for non-urgent minor illnesses or injuries; and Blue for administrative cases involving documentation or certification. This system ensures that patients receive timely and appropriate care according to the severity of their condition, improving efficiency and effectiveness in emergency care delivery. The goal is to address medical needs promptly while maintaining a structured approach to handling emergencies
