The Department of Human Resources is accepting applications for the following position.
Job Title: Emergency Medicine Physician (5)
Department: ER Department
Reports to: Chief of Emergency Medicine
Salary: $70,000 – $85,000
Specialty Summary
Provides definitive care to undifferentiated patients at the point of first contact (ER/Non-Urgent). Advocates for the patient in coordinating the use of the entire health care system to benefit the patient. The Physician shall perform medical histories and physical examinations; assess patients’ medical/surgical conditions; administer treatments in conformity with the approved protocol; advise and counsel patients concerning medical problems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as the entry point for patient’s medical and health care needs.
- Treats individuals and families by integrating behavioral, biomedical, and clinical sciences and providing comprehensive care.
- Care provided includes health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses in a variety of healthcare settings.
- Performs a directed history and physical examination pertaining to the patient’s presenting complaint, reviews patient records to determine health status, and makes an assessment there from; determines final diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Identifies normal and abnormal findings in history and physical exam. Orders appropriate laboratory and x-ray studies.
- Maintains adequate medical records (Electronic Health Records/Carevue)
- Refer cases, when indicated to other services for hospitalization or follow-up in specialty clinics.
- Writes prescriptions as permitted by the Protocol approved by the Board of Medicine.
- Instructs and counsels patients or legal guardians regarding matters pertaining to their physical and mental health, such as diets, social habits, medications, and the nature and treatment of their injury or illness and required follow up.
- Assists in clinical research and quality audits
- Actively participates in one LBJ hospital committee outside of regular clinical duties.
- Actively participate in CME conferences attended by Medical Staff.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- Will be assigned to Emergency Department /Non-Urgent Care for 8-hour or 12-hour shifts weekly. Additional shifts performed in the ED per the approved ED schedule will be eligible for compensatory payment pursuant to LBJ Tropical Medical Center Human Resources Personnel Policy and Administration Manual section 11.0423. All ER/Non-Urgent Care hours are scheduled. There is no “call” associated with ED/Non-Urgent Care.
Position Qualifications
- MD from an accredited medical school or MBBS from an accredited foreign school.
- Prefer a Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine.
- Eligible for medical licensure in American Samoa.
- Internship, Residency and Fellowship preferred but not required.
- Five years of clinical experience preferred.
