The Department of Human Resources is accepting applications for the following position.
Job Title: Otolaryngologists [ENT Surgeons] (2)
Department: Department of Otolaryngology
Reports to: Chief of Otolaryngology
Salary: $75,000- $85,000
Description
The Otolaryngologist provides health assessment and direct care to patients’ ear, nose and throat as part of the provider team providing services to LBJ Tropical Medical Center patients.
Primary Functions
- Understands and follows LBJ’s “Mission Statement”, “Code of Ethics”, organizational policies, and structure.
- Provides primary care using generally accepted standards of practice. The physician develops a plan of care for each patient including complete history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, used all available resources in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
- Hospitalizes as needed any patient requiring in-patient care. Provides primary care during the hospitalization.
- Confers with consulting physicians, midlevel providers, nurses, support staff, patients, and families concerning treatment and care of patients. Makes appropriate specialty and sub-specialty referrals, but maintains responsibility, assuring continuing of care.
- Participates in regular AND on-call coverage.
- Participates in health promotion/disease prevention activities. Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
- Supports mid-level providers in supervision and consultation.
- Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities.
- Attends and participates in LBJ activities as requested.
- Attends mandatory in-services and LBJ committee meetings.
- Completes records in adequate professional detail, and in a timely and legible manner.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Otolaryngology, Chief Medical Officer, and/or LBJ Administration staff, to meet the goal of providing excellent health care.
- Maintains and acquires knowledge and skills to perform required duties to meet all hospital, state, organizational and licensure requirements.
- Follows established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information. Employees should report any breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules to Quality Control immediately. Failure to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
- MD from an accredited medical school or MBBS from an accredited foreign school.
- Prefer a Master of Medicine in Otolaryngology/ENT Surgeon.
- Eligible for medical licensure in American Samoa.
- Internship, Residency and Fellowship preferred but not required.
- Five years of clinical experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on own; amounts over 50 pounds with assistance of mechanical devices or other personnel.
- Must be able to twist, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull.
- Must be able to climb stairs, use standing balance, walk on uneven ground.
- Must be able to use hands repetitively, use simple grasp, use firm grasp, use manual dexterity.
