Job Title: Physical Therapist
Department: Rehabilitation Department
Salary Range: $ 42,000

General Description
Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing, and administering physical therapy treatment. Administers treatments and physical agents in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
The staff therapist coordinates, delegates, and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (PTA, Rehab Technician, etc.). Participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities, and participates in CQI activities. Provides input in budget formulation, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls, and takes appropriate action to remain within guidelines.
Ensures patient training, organizational safety, and fire safety programs.
Job requires stooping, bending, lifting, reaching, and standing for long periods. Physical Therapy Aide must be physically fit and able to handle the physical aspects of the job.

Physical Therapy Aides are not permitted to independently direct patient treatment.

Organizational Summary
- Reports to: Physical Therapy Manager
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Physical Therapy Assistants, Rehab Technicians
- Key Working Relationships: Physicians and Nurses
- Primary Customer Group: Patients
Principal Responsibilities
- Directs Physical Therapy Department staff (PT Assistants and Rehab Technicians)
- Observes and evaluates treatment effects; recommends changes to physicians as needed
- Performs assessments and reassessments for all patient groups (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, general population)
- Develops and evaluates teaching plans (includes family when appropriate)
- Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities
- Treats patients and families with respect; addresses psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
- Safely operates and maintains equipment and department cleanliness
- Interacts professionally with patients and families
- Communicates effectively with physicians, staff, and administration
- Coordinates patient care to ensure needs are met and policies followed
- Maintains accurate records
- Works effectively under stress and remains organized
- Maintains strong working relationships across departments
- Collaborates with other departments for patient care
- Ensures documentation meets standards and policies
- Assists with staff orientation, training, and education
- Participates in hiring, evaluation, and termination of staff
Position Qualifications
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school
- Preferred: 1–2 years experience (new graduates may be considered)
- Current CPR certification
- Eligible for licensure in American Samoa
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs independently; over 50 lbs with assistance
- Capable of twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven surfaces
- Repetitive hand use, simple and firm grasp, manual dexterity
