The Department of Human Resources is accepting applications for the following position. 

 

Job Title:                     Sonographer

Department:               Radiology Department

Salary Range:             $ 45,000

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to teach trainee in procedures, equipment and Dept. Policies
  • Ability to teach trainees in Ultrasound procedures, equipment and policies
  • Ability to analyze images with Techs III, Tech II, Tech I, and Trainee for improvement
  • At least seven years of experience in the Radiology field
  • Performs CT scans according to protocols without supervision
  • Performs ULTRASOUND procedures without supervision
  • Performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols
  • Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs
  • Monitoring and caring for patients to ensure their safety and comfort during procedures.
  • Operates C-Arm and performs portable x-ray in Operating rooms
  • Performs portables in ICU, ER, and wards
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns, and extraneous radiation patients
  • Responsible for safe handling of X-ray equipment
  • Instructs and prepares patients for roentgen graphic and/or fluoroscopic examinations
  • Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent of invasive procedures
  • Assesses, evaluates, and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during exam
  • Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure
  • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly
  • Makes special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as: intravenous pyelograms, intravenous cholangiograms, bronchograms, hysterosalpingograms, tomograms, cholangiography, arthrograms, myelograms, and hip pinning in surgery
  • Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations
  • Communicate effectively with patients for their procedures
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures
  • Supervise Techs I and Techs II on special procedure studies
  • Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel
  • Take x-ray, CAT, U/S, MAMMOGRAMS and Angio calls according to monthly schedule after regular scheduled hours of department
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient to include neonates, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
  • Attends annual review and departmental in-services as scheduled
  • Actively participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities of radiology department
  • Monitor the crash cart daily
  • Understand the Hospital & Department EOP

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Preferred: Associates of Science in Allied Health Science or Equivalent
  • Minimum: Graduated from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained – Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers in English and Samoan
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Ability to do routine analysis following the established essential duties and responsibilities for the laboratory services
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal and local standards
  • Knowledge and ability to transmit and copy images from Digital Mammography to PACS and other discs

Scope and Impact – The analysis of routine mammogram exams directly impacts patient care and patient management

Personnel Contact – Limited to patients, nursing service, physicians, and others as deemed necessary for the performance of direct or indirect patient care

Purpose of Contact:

  • To obtain x-rays from patients and assure them of confidentiality and accuracy of test results
  • To obtain or deliver information pertinent to patient care

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Minimal lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity
  • At times will be required to push/pull and lift heavy supplies equipment
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases
  • May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
  • May be exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and wastes, electrical and radiant energy hazards
  • May be exposed to toxic chemicals
