37 members of the FEMA medical team that has been working at the LBJ Hospital and Department of Health since last month are leaving the territory tonight.
Members of the Covid-19 Task Force tell KHJ News that they were presented gifts and thanked for their service. Some got a few hours off to do some sightseeing and shopping.
Arriving on the flight from Honolulu this evening are the rest of the recruits from NuWest Group who have been retained for 13 weeks to respond to the surge in Covid cases in the territory.
The first group of 14, which included 10 nurses and 4 respiratory therapists arrived this past Saturday.
The group arriving this evening includes physicians and respiratory therapists.
Since the pandemic began two years ago the Nuwest Group has been supplying medical personnel where they are needed. LBJ Hospital has signed an agreement with the Seattle-based company to provide doctors, nurses and respiratory nurses to work here.

The Nuwest recruits are part of the LBJ Hospital’s plan to treat and care for Covid patients,
Along with having enough staff, the hospital is also expanding its infrastructure as Acting Chief of Staff, Dr Akapusi Ledua explained in Monday’s Covid-19 Task Force press conference.
